Robert Kimbell was born on July 29, 1929 in the Homer Oil Field in
Claiborne Parish to Jack Robert Kimbell and Myrtle Annie Brown Kimbell
(interestingly enough, Jack Robert Kimbell was originally named Robert
Roland
He grew up in the Homer Oil Field where his blond
hair earned him the nickname “Cottontop” The Kimbell family operated a
small grocery store and Robert and his siblings attended Homer
