On Sunday, Rahab’s House hosts a church service where the gospel of
Jesus Christ and his unconditional love are celebrated and shared. The
pastor and staff are all Cambodian nationals.
But Rahab the harlot, and her father's household, and all that she
had, did Joshua save alive; and she dwelt in the midst of Israel unto
this day, because she hid the messengers, whom Joshua

Rahab later became a particular demon, inhabitant of the sea,
especially associated with the Red Sea, in this case sometimes
associated with Leviathan.

believed not, when she had received the spies with peace," (Hebrews

so far as to make her the wife of Joshua himself (Jew Encyclopedia,
under the word).
Rahab, as an ignorant and pagan Gentile, is an uncanny picture of each
of us who are non-Jewish Christians.
Yet her confession of faith touched the God, who created her.
Rahab: a celebrated woman of Jericho who received the spies sent by
Joshua to spy out the land, hid them in her house from the pursuit of
her countrymen,
by asking, "Was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had
received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?" (James
2:25)

Josephus refers to Rahab as an Innkeeper and makes no mention of her
being a harlot and some scholars argue that we really don't know if
she was a harlot or not.
her infamous profession, it appears that Rahab engaged in
less-questionable labor as well. Either raising or buying flax, she
dried it on her rooftop and made linen from it.
What do we know about Rahab, who played such a pivotal role in the
fall of Jericho? Halley's Bible Handbook suggests she may have been a
temple prostitute, which in Canaanite eyes was an acceptable line of
The Bible makes no bones about Rahab’s occupation and makes no attempt
to cover it up. The first time we meet her in Joshua 2:1, she is
called “a prostitute named Rahab.
“By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was
not killed with those who were disobedient” (Hebrews 11:31).
There are certain occupations that we associate with certain biblical
characters.
faith that reveals why Rahab was saved from the destruction of
Jericho, her red cord serving as a sign to the Israelites that God
would–and had–saved her.
Perhaps this is how Rahab’s life unfolded in the few days after her
encounter with two Israelite spies whom she protected from her king’s
men and then directed to safety.
